ITT: A list of random tidbits for everyday life.

They must be true enough to be considered "wisdom."

    For example:

    - everything has a price

    or

    - trust no one

    Even clichés like:

    - whatever can go wrong, will go wrong (Murphy's Law)
    - the simplest solution tends to be the best one (abbreviated Occam's Razor)
    - it is often the most likely suspect

Continue please. Hopefully this will someday become that fabled "original content".

So far, few of these qualify... most of Ed's work... except the Murphy's Law one, that is the biggest misconception ever. Probably the only example of this is in fictional reality, like The Ladykillers.

    - you wouldn't be as disappointed if you'd just lower your expectations

    - when it comes to buried treasure, try to be the one selling the picks and shovels

Feh. That one sounded like a Ferengi fortune cookie.

    - Nobody is perfect.
-- Imperfection can be obvious or made obvious over time; when observing another person's imperfections, one may attempt to use these weaknesses to one's advantage.
    - Life isn't fair.
-- Upon reflection, some may realize that it is the inequalities of life that we should be grateful for.

Optimism means constant disappointment. Pessimism means the occasional pleasant surprise.

You either think you can or think you can't - and either way you're probably right.

One should respect public opinion insofar as is necessary to avoid starvation and keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny. (Bertrand Russell)
